SpaceX ’s Starship megarocket finally took flight on Tuesday, after two scrubbed attempts in the past two days.
Starship's 10th integrated test flight took off the launch pad at the company’s Starbase facility in southern Texas at 6.30 pm local time (2330 GMT).
SpaceX shared live footage of the launch on its official X account, showing a successful liftoff.
Space X also shared the update on ignition of it's Raptor engines during the critical hot-staging separation on X. “Starship’s Raptor engines ignite during hot-staging separation. Super Heavy is boosting back towards its splashdown site,” the company posted.
The rocket’s upper stage separated smoothly from the 232-foot Super Heavy booster, which was directed to splash down in the Gulf of Mexico to test an alternate landing engine setup.
Starship, meanwhile, continued its flight path into space, heading toward the Indian Ocean for a planned splashdown after enduring intense heat from atmospheric re-entry.
SpaceX confirmed the milestone with a celebratory post on X, declaring, “Splashdown confirmed! Congratulations to the entire SpaceX team on an exciting tenth flight test of Starship!”
SpaceX earlier was forced to delay the launch of its Starship rocket for the second consecutive day, after bad weather triggered a last-minute halt on Monday at its Starbase facility in southern Texas.
The megarocket was scheduled to lift off at 7.30 pm local time (0030 GMT) but was called off minutes before takeoff. “Standing down from today’s flight test attempt due to weather. Starship team is determining the next best available opportunity to fly,” the company posted on X.
Monday’s flight cancellation followed Sunday’s aborted attempt, which was halted just 15 minutes before liftoff after a ground-system leak disrupted fueling.
At the time, SpaceX confirmed, “Standing down from today’s tenth flight of Starship to allow time to troubleshoot an issue with ground systems.”
