Tragedy as toddler, 2, dies after being discovered unresponsive at nursery

A young boy died after being found unresponsive at a nursery. Emergency services rushed to the scene near Wigan last Friday afternoon (September 19) but the two-year-old was pronounced dead.

The boy became unresponsive at Parbold Douglas CE Academy Nursery on Lancaster Lane in Parbold. Police and paramedics were called at around 2.45pm before he was rushed to hospital. However, despite the best efforts of those involved, he later died.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, his death is not being treated as suspicious. A file is now being prepared for the coroner while the boy's family are being supported by specialist officers.

Lancashire Police said: "We were called to Lancaster Lane, Parbold, at 2.43pm on 19th September following reports a child had become unresponsive at school.

"The child was taken to hospital where despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he tragically died. Our thoughts are with the boy's loved ones at this extremely distressing time.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed onto HM Coroner in due course. The child's family have asked for their privacy to be respected."

It comes after a boy, 12, died after falling in a playground in Winsford last month. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 6.10pm on August 29.

The boy fell from park equipment and suffered severe injuries. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Sergeant John Rhodes, from the Protecting Vulnerable People Investigations Unit, said: "This was a deeply tragic incident involving a very young victim and our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the boy who sadly died at the scene."

Police also launched a public appeal for information. Detective Sergeant Rhodes added: "As part of our investigation into this incident, we are asking anyone who may have been in or around the Wharton Recreation Ground area just off Ledward Street in Winsford at around the time of the incident and saw anything that may aid us in our enquiries, to please get in touch."
