Pep Guardiola was left perplexed by a Sky Sports reporter after the Manchester City boss was quizzed on the future of Ederson. The goalkeeper is being linked with a move away from the club, with City said to be monitoring the situation of Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Ederson joined City back in 2017 and has played a key role in the club's success. He has been the starting goalkeeper in each of Guardiola's six Premier League-winning campaigns and has registered over 370 appearances for City.

The Sky Sports reporter asked the City boss: "You spoke about Ederson before the game. You told us he has been ill. There are some media reports breaking tonight that there could be interest in him from other clubs? Would you like to keep him? Is he a big part of your plans? Do you know anything about it Pep?"

To which a stunned Guardiola replied: "You are the first information you gave me. I don't know. The club will inform me, he'll inform me. So I don't know anything."

Ederson wasn't missed by his City team-mates, given the Blues went on to record a thumping 4-0 victory over Wolves. James Trafford, who joined the club earlier this summer, started between the sticks and looked comfortable whenever called upon.

The Brazil international remained a topic of conversation during Guardiola's post-match press conference, with Guardiola adding: "I don't have info. Today, I don't have info. Yesterday I saw his illness with gastroenteritis, and it's the only [thing] I know. And after I didn't speak with Hugo [Viana] and the club, so I don't have any news."

It's been mooted that City would move for Donnarumma, should Ederson depart before the end of the month. The Italian is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, after failing to come to an agreement with him over a new deal.

Donnarumma is out of contract at the end of the season and is believed to be open to a Premier League move. City's rivals, Manchester United, had been mentioned as a potential suitor, but the Red Devils distanced themselves from a transfer earlier this week.
