On Tuesday evening, Channel 5 audiences were captivated as actor Matthew Lewis stepped into the shoes of Canon Daniel Clement in Murder Before Evensong.
Joining him on screen are renowned actors such as Amanda Redman, Amit Shah and Adam James, with much of theseries filmed in the West Midlands.
The debut episode of this murder mystery thriller, inspired by the first book in Reverend Richard Coles' Canon Clement Mysteries series, had viewers gripped from the get-go as a corpse was discovered within the opening moments.
As the narrative rewound, audiences were introduced to the myriad characters of Champton village, each seemingly harbouring their own secrets and personal grudges.
However, as the show commenced, viewers were swift to voice their opinions on social media, with many showering praise on the series, reports the Mirror.
One viewer took to X, stating: "Enjoying Murder before Evensong. Nice and cosy, with some good characters."
Another penned: "@RevRichardcol Murder before Evensong on Channel 5, excellent. Well done."
A different viewer chimed in with: "Bit of a Midsomer feel about it but almost quintessentially English....Which is nice!"
Another shared: "Decent cast, I haven't read the book but I'm liking the story so far." A further comment read: "Loving this #MurderBeforeEvensong @channel5_tv".

One viewer added: "This is definitely a crossover between Grantchester and Agatha Christie. And I for one. Love it".
Matthew Lewis, the actor from the crime-drama series, was full of admiration as he reflected on his experience watching the show.
He remarked: "I've really enjoyed watching the series. I had about three days off the entire shoot, so I'm actually quite surprised by how much of the series I'm not in.

"When I watched the series back, I thought, 'When on earth did they film all this?' To see everybody else's work was really cool, and one of the first things I said during filming was how lucky I was to work with the calibre of actors we have in large supporting roles and guest roles.
"I knew we had a strong supporting cast, but to watch the scenes I didn't see or film was a real treat. I often say I'd watch my own work more if someone could make a super-edit without any of my scenes, so I can watch everyone else be brilliant."
Murder Before Evensong continues next Tuesday (October 14) on Channel 5 from 9pm.
