Coronation Street Jane Hazelgrove's real romance with Emmerdale star wife

Coronation Street's Bernie Winter is currently basking in a newlywed glow after her character's colourful wedding to businessman Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) in recent episodes of the ITV soap. Away from the screen, the actress who brings her to life, Jane Hazlegrove, is also happily married. The 57-year-old star has been in a loving marriage with actress Isobel Middleton since 2015. Isobel is also an actress who has appeared in Emmerdale and the Harry Potter series.

The couple have been together for 30 years after a chance meeting in 1995. They entered into a civil partnership in 2010 and married in 2015. However, initially, the Corrie actress was hesitant to formalise their relationship. In an interview with Metro, she revealed how her partner's illness changed her perspective. Jane recalled: "The reason we did it was because Isobel hadn't been well. It became very clear that I wasn't really allowed to know anything about how she was because we weren't related, even though we'd lived together for 15 years."

"It made me quite cross that I had no say in what happened to her. It all worked out fine, thankfully, but the morning after the civil partnership, I remember us saying over breakfast, 'No one can touch us now'."

Although they tend to keep their relationship private, in a 2019 interview on Lorraine, Jane gushed about her wife, pronouncing: "She's sensational, a really beautiful woman. I am very obsessed."

She has also joked that their lasting three-decade bond might be due to the fact that they have never acted together.

Though they have yet to collaborate on camera, both have ventured into the world of continuing drama. Jane first arrived in Weatherfield in 2019 and has become a fan favourite.

Meanwhile, Isobel has made multiple appearances in Emmerdale as different characters, including barrister Jean Rawson, who appeared in 2020, and Dr Lane, who appeared in 2014.

EastEnders fans will also recognise her for her role as Sadie Banks in the BBC soap.

Her dulcet tones are also familiar, as she has voiced characters in the Harry Potter series.

Meanwhile, Jane has an extensive CV, having started her career at a young age. Her credits include London's Burning, The Bill, Doctors, and Casualty before landing her role on Coronation Street.
