Yellowstone's Kayce Dutton spin-off gets thrilling update as Spider-Man star joins cast

Send Push

The much-anticipated Yellowstone spin-off, Y: Marshals, which will centre around Luke Grimes' portrayal of Kayce Dutton, has just roped in a big star for its lineup.

Logan Marshall-Green, famed for his performances in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Upgrade, is set to join as Pete Calvin, an old military comrade of Kayce's.

While specifics of his character's involvement are still under wraps, it's anticipated that Pete will be part of the US Marshals squad that Kayce leads to combat crime throughout Montana.

Revealed in March, Y: Marshals marks the first instance of a Yellowstone franchise debuting on CBS, moving away from its traditional home on the Paramount Network or Paramount+.

This new chapter joins another forthcoming spin-off focusing on Beth Dutton, played by Kelly Reilly, and her spouse Rip Wheeler, portrayed by Cole Hauser. It aims to carry on the Dutton family's tale after Kevin Costner exits his role as the patriarch John Dutton, reports the Express.

While fans are eager for a premiere date, expectations are set for the initial 13 episodes to hit screens midway through the 2025-26 season.

True to form, the series will release episodes weekly on Sunday evenings, keeping in step with the Yellowstone tradition.

The official synopsis teases an exciting journey ahead: "With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region's war on violence."

Currently, Grimes and Marshall-Green are the only confirmed stars of the series, though there's speculation that Kelsey Asbille and Brecken Merrill might return as Kayce's wife Monica and son Tate.

The inaugural episode is penned by Spencer Hudnut and directed by Greg Yaitanes.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is serving as an executive producer alongside Grimes.

Hudnut, who has previously written for SEAL Team and The Blacklist: Redemption, is taking on the role of showrunner for the series.

Marshall-Green is a recognisable figure in the film industry, with roles in big-hitters like Prometheus and the recent Netflix thriller Carry-On.

On television, he's known for his significant role as Adam in the latest season of Sex and the City sequel And Just Like That... and has experience with contemporary Westerns, having starred opposite Katheryn Winnick in Big Sky's second season.

The Yellowstone series is available to stream on Paramount+ and Netflix.
