Value Scope: Each way horseracing tips from Steve Jones for Saturday on ITV

Go with the Jo in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup. Joanna Mason has copped some choice Ascot rides and she could easily take racing’s team competition by storm.

Veteran trainer Mick Easterby’s granddaughter has developed into a really talented jockey and her experience of the track will give her an advantage over the international riders. The silver saddle for top jockey at the meeting has been won by a female rider in five of the last six years. The winner of that trophy has also been British-based in the last seven years.

Mason is 4-1 to extend that sequence and I wouldn’t put anyone off that bet but backing her mounts individually or in each-way multiples is the way to go.

She’s on REGAL ENVOY (1.35) in the opening race. He has been in great form over the last 10 months, winning five times. His all-the-way Windsor victory in June was a splendid effort and he raced on the unfavoured far side when down the field at Goodwood last week.

There’s every chance he will be able to lead this time and could be hard to catch. Have 1pt each-way at 12-1.

INSANITY (2.45) has a good record at Ascot. He landed the Shergar Cup Challenge 12 months ago and he has a great chance of retaining the trophy under Mason.

His only other visit to the Royal track came when runner-up in a decent handicap at the King George meeting last summer. Alan King’s hope won at Ayr in June but was bitterly disappointing at Newmarket’s July Meeting.

That performance was down to a slow start in a race run at a decent pace. He’s likely to bounce back to his best returned to his favourite track. Have 1pt each-way at 8-1.

ZAYER (3.20) is another fancy due to be ridden by Mason. He was a useful juvenile last season and he has run well in two of the hottest handicaps for three-year-olds this year.

After his fourth in the 5f Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stakes at Royal Ascot, he ran an equally sound race when third at Newmarket last month over 6f.

He’s unexposed over this distance and has been helped by wearing cheekpieces. Have 1pt each-way at 10-1. Sky Bet is paying out on four places in all three races.
