Mumbai: A simmering property dispute in Chembur exploded into a violent confrontation, leaving a younger brother critically injured and his elder sibling arrested on charges of attempted murder.
The victim, 26-year-old Suraj Mohammed Ramkishor Thakur, is currently battling for his life at Sion Hospital after allegedly being stabbed by his brother. The RCF Police have registered a case of attempted murder and arrested the elder brother, Chandramohan Ramkishor Thakur, 32.
Bank Account Closure Sparks Hostility
According to the police, the dramatic turn of events unfolded in the Vashinaka MHADA Colony, where the complainant, Lagina Ramkishor Thakur, 52, resides with her husband and younger son, Suraj. The elder son, Chandramohan, lives nearby with his own family in Pushpanjali Building.
The roots of the dispute trace back to June when Lagina and her husband had their mobile phones stolen while returning to Mumbai from their native village. They informed Chandramohan about the theft. He reportedly took action at their bank, which inadvertently led to the closure of bank accounts held by Lagina, Ramkishor, and Suraj.
Attack Occurred During Verbal Altercation
This development, sources indicate, deeply angered Suraj, who believed Chandramohan was deliberately trying to seize family assets. Suraj began arguing with Chandramohan, frequently bickering over property matters.
On July 25, at approximately 6:15 PM, Chandramohan was cutting vegetables with a knife at his home, when Suraj confronted him, launching into a barrage of expletives and accusations.
Suraj allegedly accused Chandramohan of orchestrating the bank account closures and illicitly acquiring family property.
Infuriated by the accusations, Chandramohan, in a fit of rage, allegedly retorted, "How much more property do you want now?!" before plunging the knife he was holding into Suraj's stomach. Suraj collapsed, severely wounded.
