Bollywood singer and composer Sachin Sanghvi, one half of the music duo Sachin-Jigar, was arrested on Thursday, October 23, following allegations of sexual assault by a woman in her 20s. Reports state that police said the complainant accused Sanghvi of luring her with promises of a role in his music album and proposing marriage before allegedly assaulting her on multiple occasions.
Allegations Against Sachin Sanghvi
According to official reports and statements cited by PTI, the complainant, a woman in her 20s, alleged that she first came in contact with Sanghvi in February 2024 after receiving a message from him on Instagram. The musician reportedly promised her an opportunity to feature in his upcoming music album, leading the two to exchange phone numbers.
The woman claimed that Sanghvi later called her to his music studio, where he allegedly proposed marriage and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. The allegations triggered a police investigation under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), ultimately resulting in Sanghvi’s arrest.
Legal Response
Aditya Mithe, representing Sachin Sanghvi, has strongly denied the allegations. As per Hindustan Times, speaking to the media, Mithe said, “The allegations in the FIR against my client are absolutely baseless and unsubstantiated. There are absolutely no merits to the case.”
He added, “My client’s detention by the police was illegal, and that is the reason why he was released on bail immediately. We intend to defend all allegations fully and unequivocally.” Sanghvi himself has not commented on the matter, and his official Instagram account, @soulfulsachin, has been deactivated.
