Priyanka Chopra was a big name in Bollywood when she decided to try her luck in Hollywood. Today, she is India’s first global star and has made her name in both industries. However, the journey has been far from a bed of roses for the ‘desi girl’. In an interview, veteran ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar revealed how she overcame challenges.
In a candid chat with Vickey Lalwani, Kakkar described the ‘Barfi’ star as “ambitious, single-minded, and focused.”
However, the actress did have certain challenges at the beginning of her career. Kakkar revealed she had poor skin and was considered stout by Bollywood standards.
“She had several disadvantages at that time—she was dark, with bad skin, and was a ‘strong-looking girl.’ She had big bones…” he stated.
However, Chopra quietly worked on her body, and in the 2008 blockbuster ‘Dostana’, she had shed a lot of weight to look svelte.
“She had to work damn hard at it because she’s not a delicate-looking girl…” he revealed.
He also lauded Chopra for making the decision to go overseas and restart her career in Hollywood. “You are getting big roles, you are getting parts, you are not top of the line anymore, and you decide, f**k it, I am going to restart my career again.’ How many people can do that?” he said.
On the work front, Chopra is touted to make her comeback in Indian films. She will be seen opposite Mahesh Babu in SS Rajamouli’s next.
